How interesting. I'm actually working on a paper for the annual meeting of the Canadian branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) next weekend in Quebec City on, partly, that very topic. I'm also connecting the development of the improvisational connection of pre-existing songs in the mid-to-late '60s to the emergence around the same time ('68-69) of beat-matching by DJs, which, in many ways, served the same purpose: to keep the energy flowing and thereby keep people on their feet. I'll certainly listen.

You should share the paper here when it's presented!

I'll definitely post it at some point and hopefully publish it somewhere in fact. But since it'll be part of my dissertation it might be a while till it's ready to share.
